That’s how it should be !
The Champions of the Towerrunning Tour 2024 are crowned at the final race at Shanghai Tower. It is the highest in altitude with 552 m to climb on 3398 stairs at 119 floors. Check what awaits you at this short Stairography.
In the men’s competition we have the Asian duel, which has lasted the whole season. Slight better cards has Wai Ching Soh from Malaysia. A win or even a 2nd place would secure the trophy for the current World Champion.Ryoji Watanabe from Japan has to catch up 60 points and needs at least a 5th place to overtake his rival provided Wai Ching does not add to his current point standing. Both athletes need at least an 11th place to improve their top 8 scores.
In case of tie points the better Shanghai Tower result decides the Champion race.
However, with Piotr Lobodzinski from Poland and Mark Bourne from Australia we have two previous winners at the staring line who can also influence the outcome.
Theoretically in the women’s competition there are 6 athletes who might clinch the trophy. Practically Kamila Chomanicova from Slovakia, who missed the Tour trophy last year dramatically by a mere 3 points, would have to win while none of the others scores. Kaisa Kukk from Estonia does not race Shanghai Tower. The challenge for defending Tour Champion Verena Schmitz from Germany is a win at the final race while none of the other 4(5) places among the Top4 which ist not very likely.
That leaves three: Yuko Tateishi from Japan, Klaudia Krajewska from Poland and Valentina Belotti from Italy. And all three have the chance to catch the price – provided they win the final race at Shanghai Tower ! World Champion Valentina has already won twice here and with only 4 season races til now will get full points, but after recent achilles surgery is still on the recovery path. Yuko and Klaudia need at least a 12th place to add to her score. So excitement is guaranteed and the home athletes might be a factor too in the thight point race.
