Cindy & Wai Ching defend Empire Titles

For the first time we saw the picture of Cindy Harris crossing the line as Empire State Building Run Up winner way back in 1998. 2022 in her 24th appearance at this iconic race she made it six titles – in a time of 13:56 holding off Shari Klarfeld by 4 seconds. After a few 3rd places the Long Island athlete made her premiere on the runner up spot and closes the gap to Cindy … Surprise 3rd was German mountain runner Monica Carl (14:33) coming from outside the elite heat. The world ranking leaders Maria Elisa Lopez (14:38) and Kamila Chomanicova (14:51) placed 4th and 5th – the Mexican a bit disappointed after runner up position last year, the Slovak athlete satisfied to be just 12 seconds behind in a long distance race.

As expected the male race developed into an Asian duel in which Wai Ching Soh from Malaysia clocked a 10:44 to hold off Ryoji Watanabe from Japan by 13 seconds. The 3rd podium spot was claimed by European Champion Fabio Ruga from Italy (11:19) before two other European athletes, Gürge Heimann (GER) and Omar Bekkali (BEL). Fastest US athlete for yet another year was Empire veteran Sproule Love (12:17) on 6th followed by youngster Cole Hetzel. The time difference between the two US athletes was 3 seconds – their age difference is 32 years ….
