IZD TOWER STIEGENHAUSLAUF

Vienna - Austria


On June, 30 2005 a new stair race was born in Vienna. Within one of the quarterly held community events at the IZD Tower there was the opportunity to climb the 630 stairs til the viewing platform. Participants were allowed to use the facilities of the Holmes Place Health Club which is located in the tower too.

From sporting point of view runners had the chance to compete with absolute world class athletes; the men´s field was led by the the multiple Donauturm winner Markus Zahlbrucknert, whereas in the ladies´ race even the actual number one in stair racing Andrea Mayr started ant except Markusshe was faster than all the men. Another prominent starter the was Carina Lilge-Leutner who many years was Austrian record holder in the marathon and even a new star has arisen in stair racing sky; - just a few days after finishing high school excellently young Nada Pauer did her first stair race; some months later she is well known for finishing second to Andrea not only at IZD but at Donauturm too and even at the Empire State Building !

The 2006 race held on June, 20 saw the champions defending their titles.
